Woman Searches for Biological Father, Finds Him in Thailand as an Elvis Impersonator

Melonie Dodaro, 46, has never met her biological father. Curious to finally get to know him, the social media marketer from Kelowna, British Columbia, relied on her expertise to track him down.

All Dodaro knew about him was his name—Cees de Jong—and a rough estimate of when and where he had been born. She uploaded a video to Facebook and Twitter, using the hashtag #FindCeesDeJong and started a virtual manhunt. "I've never met my biological father and quite often am overwhelmed with curiosity [about] who he is and if I have any other siblings."

Her social post was a hit, and it reached all over the globe. Thanks to her followers, she found her father in just—get this—THREE days. How does that even happen? She explains in her blog, "Within 48 hours, a Dutch newspaper reached out for an interview to cover the story and help me find him. They were incredibly gracious and dedicated to finding my father. This proved to be a tremendous help."

Thanks to them, she learned her father has been a musician for decades with the name Colin Young. He's also been living in Pattaya, Thailand, his home for the past 16 years, as an Elvis impersonator. And he has two other children, Elvis and Priscilla (naturally). In a beautiful twist to her family reunion, Dodaro learned her dad also has been searching for her.

I found out that he had looked for me several times over the years but my mom had changed her last name after marrying, when I was just 3 months old. He called every person in the phone book with her maiden name and offered the police $1000 in 1985 if they could find me.

She's now receiving offers from several media outlets to fly her and her family to meet her dad and half siblings in Thailand. "I'm exhausted from the whirlwind of emotions, but I'm so excited that my family is now 3X the size and I cannot wait to meet them, especially my dad."
