Augusta National Golf Club, located in Augusta, Georgia, is one of the most famous golf clubs in the world. Founded by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts on the site of the former Fruitland (later Fruitlands) Nursery, the course was designed by Jones and Alister MacKenzie and opened for play in January 1933. Its first club professional was Ed Dudley, who served in the role until 1957; Dudley was one of the top tournament professionals of his era, with 15 wins on the PGA Tour.
Since 1934, the club has played host to the annual Masters Tournament, one of the four major championships in professional golf, and the only major played each year at the same course. It was the top-ranked course in Golf Digest's 2009 list of America's 100 greatest courses and was the number ten-ranked course based on course architecture on Golfweek Magazine's 2011 list of best classic courses in the United States.

The club has drawn criticism for its exclusionary membership policies: Augusta National barred African Americans until 1990 and women until 2012. The club, which long required all caddies to be black, barred black golfers from the Masters Tournament for 40 years until Lee Elder participated in the 1975 Tournament. Tiger Woods would become the first person of color to win the tournament in 1997. He and Vijay Singh are the only people of color to win the tournament.

Paine College is a private, coeducational historically black liberal arts college located in Augusta, Georgia, United States. It is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. Paine College offers undergraduate degrees in the liberal arts, business administration, and education through residential, commuter, and off-site programs. The college is experiencing financial issues. Following two years of probation, its regional accreditor, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), recommended in June 2016 that the college lose its regional accreditation, a recommendation that the college has challenged in court. The Masters Tournament (usually referred to as simply The Masters, or the U.S. Masters outside of North America) is one of the four major championships in professional golf. Scheduled for the first full week of April, the Masters is the first major of the year, and unlike the others, it is always held at the same location, Augusta National Golf Club, a private course in the southeastern United States, in the city of Augusta, Georgia.

The Masters was started by noted amateur champion Bobby Jones and investment banker Clifford Roberts. After his grand slam in 1930, Jones acquired the former plant nursery and co-designed Augusta National with course architect Alister MacKenzie. First played 85 years ago in 1934, the tournament is an official money event on the PGA Tour, the European Tour, and the Japan Golf Tour. The field of players is smaller than those of the other major championships because it is an invitational event, held by the Augusta National Golf Club.

The tournament has a number of traditions. Since 1949, a green jacket has been awarded to the champion, who must return it to the clubhouse one year after his victory, although it remains his personal property and is stored with other champions' jackets in a specially designated cloakroom. In most instances, only a first-time and currently reigning champion may remove his jacket from the club grounds. A golfer who wins the event multiple times uses the same green jacket awarded upon his initial win (unless he needs to be re-fitted with a new jacket). The Champions Dinner, inaugurated by Ben Hogan in 1952, is held on the Tuesday before each tournament, and is open only to past champions and certain board members of the Augusta National Golf Club. Beginning in 1963, legendary golfers, usually past champions, have hit an honorary tee shot on the morning of the first round to commence play. These have included Fred McLeod, Jock Hutchinson, Gene Sarazen, Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player. University Hospital is a non-profit 581-bed private hospital located in downtown Augusta, Georgia. Established in 1818, it is the second-oldest hospital in Georgia. Although University Hospital is considered a teaching institution, it does not currently sponsor an academic program resulting in a degree. University Hospital is no longer directly affiliated with the Medical College of Georgia or Augusta University. University Hospital is a fully private hospital receiving no local or state funding.

In addition to its main hospital campus, the University Health System has outpatient medical offices and imaging centers servicing the surrounding 25-county region comprising the CSRA (Georgia and South Carolina). The Richmond County School System is an American public school system based in Augusta, Georgia. It is run by the Richmond County Board of Education which is required under Article VIII, § V, Paragraph 2 which requires that each school system be under the management and control of an elected board of education. As elected Constitutional officials of Georgia, the school board members are responsible for setting educational policies, employing school personnel, providing buildings and equipment, operating a transportation system and disbursing school funds. The board of education meets in the Richmond County Board of Education building on 864 Broad Street in Augusta, Georgia. It serves consolidated Augusta-Richmond County, Georgia and the south Richmond County cities of Hephzibah and Blythe. The system has an enrollment of around 33,000 students, attending 36 elementary schools, ten middle schools, eight high schools, four magnet schools, and three other schools. The school board
has its own police department which provides law enforcement services to all the district's schools.

The Richmond County School System is in the third phase of a construction program that will renovate older schools and add new schools, particularly for its magnet program. James Brown Arena (formerly known as Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center) is a multi-purpose complex located in Augusta, Georgia. It is managed by Spectra Experiences.

It features an 8,000 seat arena, renamed the James Brown Arena, in honor of musician James Brown on August 22, 2006. The complex also features a 2,800 seat theater, the William B. Bell Auditorium, and a 14,500-square-foot (1,350 m²) exhibit hall that opens into a 23,000-square-foot (2,100 m²) arena floor.

The James Brown Arena is the former home of the ECHL's Augusta Lynx from 1998–2008, the AF2's Augusta Stallions from 2000–2002, American Indoor Football's Augusta Colts from 2006-2008, and the Southern Professional Hockey League's Augusta RiverHawks from 2010–2013. Read more...
