Limit number of Redirects in Http Request

0

I was reading the Redirect Handling page for Apache HttpClient 3.1 here: http://hc.apache.org/httpclient-3.x/redirects.html#Special%20Redirect%20Codes

It says that "HttpClient is unable to automatically handle redirects of entity enclosing methods such as POST and PUT". However, I want this to be enabled in my implementation. In addition, I want to be able to specify the number of redirects attempts allowed; for example, 5. How do I get about achieving this? In addition, when I simply try postMethod.setFollowRedirects(true), it gives me an error. Given that I want to have a specific number of redirect attempts, this doesn't concern me that much but was curious why it didn't work.

The link above gives an example on getting the URI for redirect location as:

 String redirectLocation;
Header locationHeader = method.getResponseHeader("location");
if (locationHeader != null)
redirectLocation = locationHeader.getValue();
else
// The response is invalid and did not provide the new location for
// the resource. Report an error or possibly handle the response
// like a 404 Not Found error.
